About Me
So, who is the nutcase behind this awful piece of crap of a website?
Well, um me, of course! I’m Bryan Denny (aka Mandlar, aka Bman), a 22 year-old web programmer. I am an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I received a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in History. I currently live in Stokes County, where I’ve lived for the past 22 years of my entire life.
What do you do for a living?
Currently, I am a (web) programmer for SouthData, Inc., a printing company located in Mt. Airy, NC (a.k.a. Mayberry). As a programmer, I work on a bunch of exciting projects using C#, Asp.net, JQuery and other technologies.
Previously, I worked for Network Dynamics, Inc. as a computer technician and did a wide range of services such as computer repair/installation, malware removal, server administration, networking, etc.
What is the point of this website?
This blog is simply about me: my thoughts, my memories, my experiences. I often write about important events in my life and share interesting things I come across, especially when it is about computers and programming. And if you haven’t noticed yet, my entire right sidebar is my “traveling bookmark list.” Wherever I can access my website is wherever I can access my favorite sites!
What are some of your interests?
- Computers and technology: I own a lot of gadgets that I love to play with (Cameras, Nintendo DS, Dell Axim, etc.). I have a knack for easily picking up new technology.
- Video games: I love PC/console games. You can easily find me on Xbox live.
- Websites: I’ve been tinkering with website since I first placed my hands on a beta version of Frontpage sometime before 1998. I’m no graphics designer, but I still love to build and code websites.
- Music: I played clarinet in concert band in middle school and high school. I’ve also marched on the drumline in highschool (bass drum) and college (cymbals), and played some clarinet in college pep band.
- Bowling: I’ve been bowling ever since I was big enough to roll a ball down a lane. Everyone in my family bowls! I usually hold around a 160 average in leagues.
- History: I have a fasincation for modern European history. In particular, the World War II era. This is why I minored in History at UNC.
Why computer science?
Well I’ve been messing around with computers since I was old enough to understand what they were and what they did, with much thanks to my older brother, Scott. I’ve done just about anything and everything with them, such as building and repairing them, troubleshooting problems, gaming, graphics, websites, etc. The only thing I never really did much of was programming, so when I went to Carolina it was a new experience to actually learn how to do it. Another huge plus was that it was something that I enjoyed doing while I learned it. Programming is really fun and puts my mind on edge with the big abstract problems that need to be solved.
What about your family?
I am the youngest of three in my family. I have older brother, Scott, and an older sister, Jill. They are 12 and 8 years older than me, respectively. I also have a nephew from Scott, Landyn, and a niece from Jill, Audrina. And I can not forget about my wonderful parents who brought me into this world!
Cats or dogs?
Cats! You either love them or hate them. Usually its both. We own two cats. Sadly, my cat was put to sleep in the summer of 2008 — he was about 17 or 18 years old.
Whats up with the boobies page?
It’s a trap! Basically it was a parody I came up with that mocks those evil pr0n sites that try to snag you when you try to google up certain search queries (hence the gazillion words shoved at the bottom of the page). Ironically, I’ve caught a lot of people trying to search for some boobies. I wonder if they were the ones they were wanting?
